Member Country professionals attend training on OPEC and the oil market

Vienna, Austria, 3 March 2016--High-potential, mid-level professionals from OPEC Member Countries learned about the structures and function of various departments at the Secretariat and gained insight into the oil market during a one-week training course held at the OPEC headquarters from 22–26 February.

The Multi-Disciplinary Training Course (MDTC) — now in its 16th year — drew 34 attendees from eight OPEC Member Countries. Organization analysts provided in-depth presentations on short- and long-term petroleum market topics, data issues and the Organization’s Long-Term Strategy, while the support departments summarized their activities. Participants took part in lively question and answer sessions, as well as panel discussions.

The attendees also visited OPEC’s sister organization, the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), where staff members discussed the humanitarian efforts undertaken by the Organization and answered questions. The final day included a visit to the OPEC conference room, where Member Country oil ministers meet twice a year to determine OPEC production; here participants were given the chance to ask questions of the Director of the Research Division.
