Systems/Network Specialist

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has a

vacancy based in Vienna, Austria, for a Systems/Network Specialist

in its Administration & IT Services Department.

Main responsibilities:

Carries out research and troubleshooting of network related prob-

lems; improves theperformancebetweensoftwareand infrastructure;

finds peaks in DataStream and provides for bottlenecks; identifies

future needs compared to general software and hardware develop-

ment. Develops and implements new procedures to improve com-

puter network services; and creates automated tasks to warn and

prevent service errors and interruptions to limit total down time.

Monitors all installed servers for performance and security, searches

for bottlenecks and access peaks and investigates for software set-

tings; adjusts software parameters and finds security compromis-

ing services and tasks. Maintains and upgrades software/hardware

installations, installs regular security patches, determines necessary

hardware extensions and prevents hardware related service interrup-

tions. Provides user support, troubleshoots user accounts and pro-

vides help to prevent further problems; identifies software errors and

searches for software updates and patches. Keeps abreast of techno-

logical development and runs tests on new software and hardware

to identify improvements for the Secretariat. Examines trade maga-

zines and attends computer trade shows to obtain latest information

on technology that will benefit the Secretariat. Carries out any other

tasks assigned by the relevant superiors as pertain to his/her back-

ground, qualifications and position.

Requirements:

University degree in computer science, information technology or

other science studies related to information technology; professional

certification in network operating systems and related technologies

(preferably Microsoft OS); four years of work experience.

Skills and knowledge:

Networking concept; Microsoft, CISCO and VMW; Exchange e-mail

server; Firewall concept; computer hardware; video & web confer-

encing; communication skills; analytical skills; presentation skills;

interpersonal skills; customer service orientation; initiative; integrity

Offer:

Commensurate remuneration package (ie monthly basic salary of

¤3,976 x 12 per year) with tax-free benefits and six weeks of annual

leave.

Main responsibilities:

Handles all aspects of journal (print and electronic) subscrip-

tions, including subscription lists, budget preparation, budget

&expenditure reports andprocessing of invoices, contracts, and

claims for missing journal issues.

Handles all aspects of online subscriptions, including reg-

istration and activation of all library/corporate and institutional

accesstoonlinesubscriptionsaswellasmaintenanceofassigned

user lists for subscriptions.

Maintainstheelectronicperiodicalcatalogueusing theLibrary

Integrated System Biblioteca2000, including registration and

cataloguing of all new subscriptions and updating the electronic

Kardex system.

Prepares and maintains circulation and display journal lists.

Maintains the physical periodical collection, including han-

dling of the archive storage, selecting journals for binding, shelv-

ing and discarding and updating manual records.

Carries out reference and research services and assists staff,

delegates and authorized visitors with reference inquiries and

literature search.

Carriesout anyother tasksassignedby the relevant superiors

as pertain to his/her background, qualifications and position.

Requirements:

Secondary School certificate plus special courses; three years

(with a minimum of one year in a library).

Skills and knowledge:

Library management system; MS Office; typing; Copyright Law

(data protection); communication skills; interpersonal skills;

customer service orientation; proficiency in written and spo-

ken English.
