OPEC Secretary General, HE Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, has congratulated HE Dr. Sun Xiansheng, Secretary General of the International Energy Forum (IEF), on being awarded the Crans Montana Forum’s Gold Medal during an official ceremony in Dakhla, Morocco.

The Forum’s Gold Medal is a high-profile honorary distinction that celebrates exceptional achievements and actions toward a more humane and impartial world. HE Dr. Sun was awarded the Gold Medal to honour his actions and those of the IEF in promoting inclusive, open and informed energy dialogue for decision-makers and energy policy-makers worldwide.

The OPEC Secretary General said that HE Dr. Sun is an extremely deserving winner of the Award. “With his energy, commitment and foresight, HE Dr. Sun has had an extremely positive impact in strengthening and extending the producer-consumer dialogue, fulfilling the underlying objectives of the IEF, and elevating the prestige and engagement of the Forum in the global energy community,” said HE Barkindo.

He added that the OPEC Secretariat “truly appreciates his insights and his dedication to enhancing cooperation between the Organizations, as well as with the International Energy Agency. In a short period of time, he has become a great friend and advocate.”

Prior to heading up the IEF, HE Dr. Sun was President of China National Petroleum Corporation’s (CNPC) Economics and Technology Research Institute (ETRI) where he led a team of over 370 staff members. He was also deeply involved in the Chinese energy five-year planning process and many other major policies, as well as serving as chief editor of ETRI’s ‘Oil & Gas Industry Development Report’ and the first ‘China Energy Data & Statistics’ report.
