Downstream Challenges and Opportunities
Objectives:
• To highlight the role and importance of downstream, and in particular the refining industry, for market stability
• To discuss the current situation as well as the prospects of the downstream sector and in particular whether the current bottlenecks may ease in the future, globally and by region
• To highlight the impact of environmental regulations and fuel specifications on the downstream business
Session Five
Petroleum and Sustainable Development
Objectives:
• To review the prospects for sustainable development and progress in implementation of the Millennium Development Goals
• To discuss the important role that energy in general, and petroleum in particular, play in the quest for sustainable development
•To highlight the role of development funds
Session two
Oil Production Capacity Expansion
Objectives:
• To present investment capacity expansion plans in the short-to-medium term, as well as investment needs in the long term
• To highlight the uncertainties, in particular related to oil demand, that may affect the required level of upstream investment
• To discuss National Oil Company/International Oil Company co-operation
Session Four
Role of Petroleum Technology Advances
Objectives:
• To discuss advances in oil and gas upstream technologies
• To highlight technology advances and their impacts on demand, particularly in the transportation sector
• To emphasise the role of technology in the protection of the environment
Session Six/Panel Discussion
The Role of OPEC in a New Energy Era
Session Six takes the form of a high-level panel discussion & seeks to define how OPEC can best position itself to handle the unfolding challenges & opportunities of the coming years. The Seminar concludes with Closing Remarks by OPEC Conference President.
