Sixth meeting of EU-OPEC Energy Dialogue to be held in Vienna on 23 June 2009

The sixth high-level meeting of OPEC’s energy dialogue with the European Union (EU) will take place in Vienna, Austria, on 23 June.

The two parties, recognizing the important role that the dialogue, now into its fifth year, is playing in facilitating constructive exchanges between them, will review the progress that has been made on joint activities since the fifth meeting of the Energy Dialogue in Brussels, Belgium, on 24 June 2008, and chart the way ahead for the work programme for the coming 12 months.

The delegations will be made up as follows:

OPEC: Eng José Maria Botelho de Vasconcelos, President of the OPEC Conference, Minister of Petroleum of Angola; Eng Germánico Pinto, Alternate President of the OPEC Conference, Minister of Mines and Petroleum of Ecuador; and Mr Abdalla Salem El-Badri, Secretary General of OPEC.

EU: Mr Vladimir Tošovský, President of the EU Energy Council, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic; Ms Maud Olofsson, incoming President of the EU Energy Council, Minister for Enterprise and Energy, Sweden; and Mr Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Energy.

The closed meeting will be held at the OPEC Secretariat, Obere Donaustrasse 93, 1020 Vienna, between 1000 and 1300, with a press conference scheduled for 1300-1330. Journalists wishing to attend are advised to register online at http://www.opec.org/home/contact/attendMtg.aspx.
