The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has a vacancy based in Vienna, Austria for a "Research Analyst" in its Petroleum Studies Department, who assists the Department Head in conceiving and formulating research proposals, analyses and contributions regarding short-term oil market developments for inclusion in in-house publications and special study reports, as well as presentations of the Secretariat. He/she will study and analyze current and emergent developments in the oil market, assess research and reporting of external institutions and other entities on subjects related to the international oil market.
Main Responsibilities:
• Carrying out and coordinating detailed analytical studies relating to international oil market developments and following up/reporting on international research undertaken in this field
• Advising on and contributing to other studies to be initiated/carried out by the Department
• Monitoring and analyzing short-term developments in the international oil & product markets and reporting on findings
• Drafting & helping coordinate inputs and production of all departmental reports
• Preparing and/or helping coordinate preparation of presentations
• Developing proposals/drafting feature articles for the Secretariat’s Monthly Oil Market Report
• Consolidating/assisting in the consolidation of oil supply & demand analyses and forecast
• Calculating the oil market balance and the demand for OPEC crude
Requirements:
• University degree in Energy Economics or related field (advanced degree preferred)
• 12 years work experience (10 years in case of advanced degree)
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
Skills and Knowledge:
• Training/specialization in energy analysis and forecasting techniques
• Knowledge of oil market developments
